That's why i love TYPE!

.101

Yey! It's my 101th post!!!

I definitely became more observant ever since I told myself to be discipline and look at the things around me at a greater detail. As a designer I constantly look at things and then get inspired. Well sometimes it's weird cause when i look at logo and stuff these days, I think about the whole idea and concept the designer had while designing it. Some are bad design but some are just totally cool.

I also try to scan in my doodles regularly now so my habit wont go to waste. I just love art and design and I am proud I am embracing it with glee :)

Oh ya! Good news! I got the pattern job for the restaurant in Abu Dhabi!

hello workspace. an attempt to make it look like my own work study area at home... with a turkish table cloth and corkboard for a mousepad. surprisingly comfortable and less hassle than normal pads. =) and yeap the faceless couple. I wanted the frame not the faces. Just trying to be a recycle person. That's all.
Almost like a shrine for my personal stuff including oggling at taylor laurtner during sleepy and boring moments. =)
stationery loves... i love colours. i love tapes. bingo!
stationery loves 02: I can't get enough of paperclips!
calendar corner i call it. with a pathetic garden.

I need an office desk MAKEOVER!!
I NEED..
  • a mini locker to put all my personal stuff in like lotion, lip balm and other first aid kid stuff
  • a memo notice board to remind me of the pending jobs and stuff
I don't know what else but i think i need a better working space! And a new freaking Mac!!

Another Lovely Weekend..

The weekend was a great break! I did all sorts of stuff and so much fun! Went JB with the girls and did Via Ferrata at Orchard Central with Ayul and then had dinner at Marche! =) Lovely, lovely weekend!

Well going back to work mode, I was just looking at random stuff to start my morning...

I was cleaning up my desk and putting my new stash of stationery! =) bought some nice vibrant tapes, zebra and ice cream paper clips and a pen holder. I think I need a proper miniature locker for my workspace to keep my lotions and stuff too.. Well still looking for one... Popular ran out of them already I think..

Anyhoots, I saw some really cool stationery and tapes at NothingElegant. They are effing neat!!! I love stained, rugged and messy looking stuff. It's just a pretty break from all the modern looking sterile stuff I see often in design these days..

I am so tempted to get some on impulse man!

Patrick Moberg

He is one great illustrator. His style is witty and scruffy and so does his appearance too =) I am inspired! I find some similarities in the way we draw. but perhaps he draw it digitally? and colour them digitally too?

But I draw it with hand and scan my doodles in and colour them digitally. That's how it works. And I didnt really draw, just doodles. Less than 5 minutes kinda work. But his illustrations are way way more awesome than mine. I've lots to polish I guess. I love his style. Long legs and skinny people. They look comical!

I missed the blank screen on the TV when it is under construction or end of transmission. I still remember when Arts Central or some other non-24hours channel plays the colour stripes screen. I thought that was a unique memory of being born in the 80s and having to observe the transitions in media and everything else. Now there's no longer the colourful stripes. They have a special screen page that will play live radio as well.

I was googling about this and found someone's graphic web portfolio exactly in the same format. Thought it very cool of her to use the black squares as buttons to link to her works. But the inconvenient part is when we click for more images. A new window will open and so on. So maybe construction wise, not so efficient but I like the original idea. Everyone's blog or folio is becoming the same sterile clean looking style. She sure caught my attention.

S
he handwrites and draw her own letters when it comes to typography. She admits she's not great at choosing fonts and would prefer making her own hand rendered fonts. Which is a unique talent in my opinion. I love type too and I love her self and current project Daily Drop Cap. It is very interesting creating a drop cap for web usage. Which is popular now and I have already used it!

Well I am starting on a tumblr blog too. It will be my stash of daily random doodles that makes me feel whatever I feel that day. I have a couple of random doodles but I haven't scanned them in yet. So will share the link later then...

Love this team of people who actually focuses on classic design in the 50s and 70s. They also showcases contemporary designers that draw inspirations from that time period. I love exploring the site just to excite me more and more. Wonderful and lovely design works.

They also have a page where you can find some work or internships. So cool! I wish I can just fly over and work in states. They have so much room for a graphic designer to bloom and grow into a great professional! I gotta try my luck one day man.

Anyway, the images above is the Mitsubishi Chemical Industries: 1958 Calendar they featured in their website some time ago. I love Japanese design for their clean and simple sleek design overall. They are great with geometric and grids. I think ancient people really take grids seriously. People like Michaelangelo who did the sculpture of David with precision.

Japanese Design always awes me. Like if you spot a Japanase design be it a publication or a packging, you will go 'Ah, so Japanese.' They clearly made a trade mark of their own unique style.

I like to give my eyes some therapy. Looking at their things nicely letterpressed and silkscreened is such a great pleasure. Printing techniques in Singapore is so limiting. There's no letterpress specialists or anything!

URGH i so wanna go over to states and be a real graphic designer!!!

BIG NIGHT OUT 2010!!

MUSE WAS AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME!!!!! I bought the tickets as a surprise for Ayul. Well it's part of his birthday treat and also something for us to reminiscent how we got to know each other 4 years ago. I was playing 'Hysteria' on my first mp3 ever and we really enjoyed the guitar parts in that song. It was so good!

I mean Muse goes way back since my junior college days. Azri and the gang always jammed those songs after school and stuff. So I really love Muse for how their indie alternative rockish tunes with some classical touches and electronica vibes. They are just TREMENDOUSLY GREAT!

BIG NIGHT OUT was so so so worth it. Though we got a cheaper free standing ticket, we really enjoyed the energetic live performance. The whole stadium was booming with lovely graphics and splashes of colours! I was so in love with their stage set. It's a screen projected and the inter-playing lights made their backdrop look 3D. Really freaking cool!

Didn't manage to take that great pictures though. But got some videos! Cant wait to compile them together and re-watch!!

OH BY THE WAY, I really want the Muse Tour Book. The Muse merchandise was selling like hot cakes. The book costs 25 bux last night. Cause of the really long queue I didn't get the book and by the time the concert ended, the merchandise booth was closed!

AHHH!! I want one!!
