scarving inspirations

i have been looking at these referencec just to gauge the size and how the scale of patterns would be. most likely, i will produce scarves for the first phrase or maybe 2 phrases. i am not sure.

but what i can be very sure is that, i need to print on silk. or a fabric smooth and similar to that of silk. hmmm. most scarves are around 36" by 36". think about 90 cm by 90 cm should be ok. but a smaller one, mostly for headbands and handbags, cld be around 19" by 19" only.

now, i have to also focus on exploring with colors!

second round_patterns for all phrases

here are the patterns from all the phrases that I have. They are the ones I showed to Omar. We have sat down and discussed the possible items I can print and produce. I am visualizing a space that uses these application; sort of a chilling corner and the items in that space flaunt my patterns. Still working on the sketch.

Phrase 1/ me a woman; big. bold spirited

Phrase 2/ i march straight out to the light

Phrase 3/ i felt my face, i remembered how my friends recognised me

Phrase 4/ i can't grasp it yet i can't let it go

i will upload the colored ones soon. along with the sketch!

concentration

this is a big word. some days i find myself very focused. some days i find myself totally lost and just no mood to do anything. well i have everything in my head but execution takes a whole new effort on my lazy bones.

i do tell myself i have to be more pro-active in fyp. i am excited to try out the different colors and all. but i just don;t know what is keeping me lagging behind.

i am kinda on schedule.

yesterday i have talked to Omar about my applications. he has seen my patterns and he said they are feasible to be printed. I will only be using some of the patterns to print on some applications.

More importantly, after talking to Dr Kate, we both agree how i can progress with my pattern making...

/show adaptability: since i am reaching a broader audience, then my patterns must be accessible, adaptable and versatile.

/play with proportion, sizes and scale of my motifs: this is because I need to understand how my patterns work on a wallpaper, or let say a smaller item like a handkerchief.

/what i choose to display has to rely on the shape: now i am making patterns by exploring how i can put in curvilinear calligraphy into an angular grid and vice versa.

/play with colors: this also show versatility, show different context and mood. colors also brings out the quality of my patterns applied on the application.

/need to survey women on their reactions to my patterns and what the colors represents to them or has made them feel.

first round patterns_phrase one

these patterns are the ones i showed for presentation on Nov 8th.

they are all made of the same phrase. me a woman; big, bold spirited. =)

anyway before i came up with these, i have have many calligraphic explorations. and chose some explorations to put them into grids i have practiced drawing for a few days. it was a fun process to see how my motif can be developed into a pattern when i put them into the different grids.

it was very enriching and i have many ideas running in my head. this is November's work. I will update December's works after this. This time, the whole library of patterns is complete!

i am left with exploring colours suited for the application i have brainstormed and envisioned. i sort of know what to display for the whole installation on graduation day.. i just need to gather the props and then i can tell Omar how much things I need to print. I am sketching the spaces now. As for those patterns/applications I could not print due to budget constrain, I will be mocking them up like an interior design display.

hmm lots of work to do!

been looking and looking

i have start generating some more patterns. i discovered i have three more phrases to explore. so i will have 4 phrases. and many about 20 patterns?

i am not so sure. but now i am also looking at the different applications of my patterns. so far, i am confident some patterns are quite versatile. i mean versatility will also show how my patterns is a universal language on its own since i am reaching a broader audience.

i have made a list of things feasible to print and produce. i am meeting omar on monday to discuss cost and potential of my patterns! i am so excited. dpi has also shifted. i wonder if i can find the road name!

here are some inspirations. they are really beautiful!
